Honorverse RPGing...

Ahoy,

Looking at ideas to pull off Honroverse tabletop (remote or in person) RPG. Really was looking for a system. I have played the new Star trek Adventures, and I like how that abstracts ship actions as something people/characters do, with the ship as a tool/assisting character.

I was also thinking that could be done via FATE/FAE. Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?

Are you on the TRMN Gaming Discord server? Pretty sure they are working on making it possible to play SITS virtually.

It depends on what you're looking for. If you just want a ship combat simulator, then your best bet is to probably use SITS, since it's designed to use the Honorverse material. If you're wanting a more full-bodied RPG experience, GURPS can probably accommodate you. It's designed to be infinitely adaptable and can be used in any setting.

Those are all books that would probably get you what you want. There are some other smaller ones that could also be used if you're trying to expand details. It would take some work making the adaptations to GURPS terminology and such, but that would have to be done with any game system you used that wasn't natively designed for the Honorverse. I haven't spent a lot of time on the sci-fi side of GURPS since 3rd edition, but I'm happy to help if you go that route. There's also an active online community you can pose rules questions to. There are a number of military folks on there who know all the stats and functions of modern weaponry and love importing them into GURPS.

I've been thinking with the ups and downs a lot of people have had playing Starfinder - trying to make a home game based on the Starfinder rules.

I think they are nearing finishing touches on Honorverse RPG book as well. saw some pics around Manticon that had the rough version at the Final Sword Production table.

If you want classic Tabletop RPG experience, I'd wait for the official release of the Honorverse rulebook they're creating, personally.
Other than that, sounds like a great idea, and would be nice to se this going.

Don't know where you ended up with this, but I have been working on and off on a setting for Savage Worlds. It has the ease and flexibility to handle Honorverse. I want to embrace the Archetype concept presented Rifts (Helm, Tactical, Engineering, etc).

I often struggle with RPG's for "Star Trek" like settings - bridge crew should never leave the ship, so where is the fun? My thought would be each player would have a "Shipboard" character and a "Tactical" character - a marine or maybe a Rating....

Terminology correction - most of the people on the bridge of an Honorverse warship will be ratings. Same goes for other departments on the ship and for the Marines. Rating is just another term for enlisted on a warship.

I'll also point out that in the Honorverse, the navy really isn't finding new unknown inhabited planets to explore. This would have an impact on the scenarios you might consider.

Absolutely, any system chosen really needs to focus on combat and diplomacy (the two things we really see people doing in the Honorverse).

Sadly I've not gotten very far with this.

Maybe.
Most of the combat we've seen has been at the ship to ship level. For that you want SITS. Or see if someone is going to make a simpler version of such a game.
