Staff Tactical Officer Introduction

Ladies, Gentlemen and Treecats,

As the newly appointed Staff Tactical officer, I believe it's time for the introductions. Since, I believe that once my name came up in the announcements, most of you were scratching your heads, and thinking, 'Who is this person and how come we've never heard of them?'
Quite fair reaction, if I may say so.

I live in the Czech Republic & joined TRMN in June 2018, already being part of Czech Republic's Honor Harrington fanclub too; some of you know us (BatCruRon39) and the folks too, since they are known to venture out to MantiCon too!
Back to TRMN - I originally even thought they are part of the same organization, and when I found out TRMN and my 'home' fanclub are two separate entities, I was thinking - 'Let's check them out'. So, here I was, lurking on HMSS Greenwich, and realizing that I am mostly set apart from most of you, given vast majority of members are set in the United States; starting to take part in the academic portion of TRMN. Taking courses. A lot of them, and a lot of fun, giving more insight into Honorverse and other subjects, that proved to be interesting for me, for more than one reason.

Fastforward to about November, I was sitting here, and thinking 'Alright, I've been doing Academy Courses, but surely there's more I can do, to be more connected to TRMN as well?'
Considering that I live so far away, I thought about my possibilities - whatever I do in TRMN, it has to be something, that I can do from where I am and where one's location is not a limiting factor. Already getting close to the time when Staff Tactical Officer position opening was posted - It was perfect. I've been a passionate gamer for majority of my life, be it videogames, tabletop RPG's, roleplaying, collectible card games. And what else is a great venture, that can be done regardless of where you are?

Correct. Games.

Gaming can connect people across the world, and since it's basically a thing for me - I applied. Of course, being rather new around TRMN, I didn't expect to get the position, but the only opportunities missed are those that one doesn't even try to reach for. Now that I'm sitting here, sipping my coffee, and writing this introduction - I know the road is going to be bumpy, and surely is going to involve some learning curve - but I hope to promote gaming within TRMN - which of course, will not be one (wo)man's work. It'll take you all, fine folks, to let me know what you want.

My first steps will involve connecting with other Tactical Officers, to find out what kind of games people play, what kind of events people do, or want to do and brainstorming of potential ideas. I already have several up in my sleeves, but for now, my main goal is to get to know my audience - that's right, that would be all of you. That may or may not be a subtle hint to reach out to me, and let me know about your ideas too.

With that said - I'll be looking to make more centralized group dedicated to gaming in TRMN - Be it on Discord or Facebook, so we can easily talk to each other, and make some fun stuff happen.

Last but not least - Down the line, I'd like to streamline the Marksmanship Program - I know there are questions regarding the program quite frequently, and I'll be happy to help answer your questions along the way as well; hoping to make the program inclusive and easily reachable for everyone.

Slowly, but surely aiming to wrap this up - I haven't written such a speech for quite a while (I bet it shows!), so on the closing note - I really encourage all of you to reach out to me, and let me know about your ideas, and about games you play. Especially that kind of games, that people can play together; although I am not picky.

If you've read this far - thank you for your time. Now, onwards, to fun.

Engage.

Hello Sir
Your introduction does not list your rank. I'm a Spacer with three courses under my belt. That physic course, to be honest, threw me for awhile. I will be starting to do more courses in the future. I vote for Dungeons &Dragons Adventure League rules. All a regular player needs is some paper and pencils. I have to state up front my idea puts a lot of the work load on the Dungeon Master. Tactical Officers can either go online for the information or buy the books. Having games via a "Skype" could be easily scheduled. Congratulations for the new position. Wish you all the best.

All kind of games are encouraged, no need to vote! It's more of me wanting to find out what games people like and play together, so we can focus on them and go from there. :)
On another note - I am quite familiar with D&D myself - even though I play on entirely homebrew/original set these days. It can even be played over one of the platforms, such as Fantasy Grounds, and have the group over at Skype or Discord.
The rank is Commander - I forgot to put on my uniform and wrote my introduction in pyjamas. My bad! :D

I'm a prolific online gamer, playing things like Star Wars: The Old Republic, Planetside 2, Star Citizen, Kerbal Space Program, and many others. I love teamwork based PVE games, and will generally give almost anything a try. I'm a sucker for older games like X-wing, TIE Fighter, and X-wing Alliance, but those are rarely played these days.

I've been searching for people to play SITS, as it's something I'm very interested in.

I'm also trying to put together a functional SWTOR group to play together to help people get their Marksmanship ribbons and just in general provide another outlet for geographically separated members of the org to get together and spend time getting to know each other.

I'll be launching more centralized group(s) pertaining to gaming, so it's all in its' own place and easily found (along with posting it here, in these forums, so people just click one 'info' topic and find all the relevant channels and informations/links to them in it, as opposed to having the informations oddly scattered) - very likely to be Facebook & Discord, so we can coordinate easier.

Once those are up, I'll be posting them in these forums. Definitelly looking to get in touch with other Tactical Officers and people interested in gaming, so we can get this ball rolling. I can very much relate to the last part of your post - TRMN has a huge base in US, but there are folks all over the world, who may feel rather away from everyone. Gaming is the perfect venture, how to connect with each other and enjoy some activities together. Hoping to encourage even HMSS Greenwich folks to come out and play, specifically.

For my games - Big into RPG's & story-driven ones, when it comes to singleplayer. Played tons of StarCraft 2, the oldest MMO I played was Ultima Online. I'm big into roleplaying and tabletops, hoping to get some Artemis going with my ship this year too. Have a lot of hours in Star Trek Online, have a big passion and love, that is Warframe (you may even like it, if you like cooperative PvE gunplay/hack & slash type of games!)

Regarding to SITS - Kinda curious about it too. I know more folks in TRMN actually are - maybe looking into ways how to make it playable over distance could be something to do soon. :)

I am actually working on a VASSAL module for SITS. will still require voice chat on side, but will have all the ships currently released, and allow you to move them like the board game. May have some bugs in it once get it to a playtest state, mainly on managing the salvo cards and the AVID layout, but should be decent enough.
