Ladies, Gentlemen & Treecats,

It has been almost a month since my appointment to Staff Tactical Officer to the First Lord of Admiralty, my job being to promote gaming as a whole within TRMN, among other things.

As such - It is my goal to provide a summary of what has been happening in terms of gaming within TRMN, on a monthly basis - think of it as sort of report or house-keeping from my side, as well as to highlight events and individuals who have shown special initiatives as far as gaming goes, within the span of the month. That said - I am doing my little digest a bit ahead of schedule this time - as I will be away for entire weekend, but these reports will be coming around 20th each month.

TRMN GAMING DISCORD

My first steps went towards creating a common venue for all people interested in gaming (regardless of which genre) within TRMN, that's centralized and easily accessible, allowing for smooth and quick communication between members; regardless of which Chapter or Fleet they belong to. Reasoning being - a lot of gaming activities can be shared no matter your location, and as such, makes for opportunities for everyone - even if you aren't lucky to be close to your Chapter physically. Also - looking at you, HMSS Greenwich members! Come join us.

Find more about our Discord server & for informations how to join us HERE.

Additionally - I have written a comprehensible topic for first-time Discord users - Go HERE for more informations.

EVENTS PLANNED

Because of our new Discord server, there's already been plans made by several active members, to do gaming sessions together. I am highlighting great efforts of Commander Alex Shaffer, who has been working on SITS module for Vassal, in order to make SITS playable over distance & he has begun playtests for those interested.

Another gaming event, that is also going to be re-curring on a semi-regular basis - Captain Jill McTavish will be running beginner-friendly Star Wars RPG sessions. All, what is needed, is to simply come on our Discord, and express your interest.

SPECIAL MENTIONS

  • Captain Jill McTavish of HMS Valkyrie
  • Commander Alex Shaffer of HMS Barbarossa
Both have shown initiative in terms of gaming, coming forward and offering to run gaming sessions for others to participate in.

OTHER TIDBITS

I want to encourage everyone to speak up, no matter if it's on the forums, Facebook, my e-mail or our Discord - after all, your experience as a TRMN member is largely based on what you make it. Do not be discouraged. If there is anything you want to happen in terms of gaming, shout. Yell. Talk. Suggest.

MY INQUIRIES TO YOU ALL

I am considering creating a Facebook Group, to serve as another centralized place for gamers within TRMN. My question of this month, to you all, is if that's something you would be interested in. I am well-aware that everyone prefers different social media & means of communication, be it Facebook, TRMN Forums or Discord - ideally, I'd be able to reach out to everyone, offering a place for you to easily reach out to gamers within our organization too.

If there are any other things you may be interested in - my e-mail (sto@firstlord.trmn.org) & my forum-inbox are open to you all.

Additionaly - I would like to include announcements of Marksmanship Awards on monthly-basis to this report too - so Fleet Tactical Officers, reach out to me!

See you all in next month's report!

Thank you for the information. It is nice to have updates.

A suggestion: not everyone in TRMN is a gamer, but some of us might like to get more involved. A beginners group or a primer on online gaming might be a great incentive.

That gives me an idea for a write-up to do. Thank you for speaking up! :D

Also, do not feel discouraged from joining us even if you aren't 'hardcore' gamer. Presently, the TRMN Gaming Discord is a cozy little place for all things gaming - But it is in no way limited to just gaming; if you want to mingle with TRMN members regardless of where you are - you're welcome to do so too.

It should also be noted that this is not gaming just for PC/console games, but also RPGs, there is a RPG planned Sunday for instance that will be played through Voice Chat, and I've shared some Battletech stuff I've done.

Yep - it's all gaming. A lot of board games can be done over distance via Tabletop Simulator, as can the classic RPG's, via Fantasy Grounds or similar. I plan to write about this sometime next week, hopefully.
As said previously - There are currently plans for a beginner-friendly Star Wars RPG session, this Sunday, ran by Captain Jill McTavish, and Commander Alex Shaffer works on SITS playtests.
