Ladies, Gentlemen and Treecats,
As the newly appointed Staff Tactical officer, I believe it's time for the introductions. Since, I believe that once my name came up in the announcements, most of you were scratching your heads, and thinking, 'Who is this person and how come we've never heard of them?'
Quite fair reaction, if I may say so.
I live in the Czech Republic & joined TRMN in June 2018, already being part of Czech Republic's Honor Harrington fanclub too; some of you know us (BatCruRon39) and the folks too, since they are known to venture out to MantiCon too!
Back to TRMN - I originally even thought they are part of the same organization, and when I found out TRMN and my 'home' fanclub are two separate entities, I was thinking - 'Let's check them out'. So, here I was, lurking on HMSS Greenwich, and realizing that I am mostly set apart from most of you, given vast majority of members are set in the United States; starting to take part in the academic portion of TRMN. Taking courses. A lot of them, and a lot of fun, giving more insight into Honorverse and other subjects, that proved to be interesting for me, for more than one reason.
Fastforward to about November, I was sitting here, and thinking 'Alright, I've been doing Academy Courses, but surely there's more I can do, to be more connected to TRMN as well?'
Considering that I live so far away, I thought about my possibilities - whatever I do in TRMN, it has to be something, that I can do from where I am and where one's location is not a limiting factor. Already getting close to the time when Staff Tactical Officer position opening was posted - It was perfect. I've been a passionate gamer for majority of my life, be it videogames, tabletop RPG's, roleplaying, collectible card games. And what else is a great venture, that can be done regardless of where you are?
Correct. Games.
Gaming can connect people across the world, and since it's basically a thing for me - I applied. Of course, being rather new around TRMN, I didn't expect to get the position, but the only opportunities missed are those that one doesn't even try to reach for. Now that I'm sitting here, sipping my coffee, and writing this introduction - I know the road is going to be bumpy, and surely is going to involve some learning curve - but I hope to promote gaming within TRMN - which of course, will not be one (wo)man's work. It'll take you all, fine folks, to let me know what you want.
My first steps will involve connecting with other Tactical Officers, to find out what kind of games people play, what kind of events people do, or want to do and brainstorming of potential ideas. I already have several up in my sleeves, but for now, my main goal is to get to know my audience - that's right, that would be all of you. That may or may not be a subtle hint to reach out to me, and let me know about your ideas too.
With that said - I'll be looking to make more centralized group dedicated to gaming in TRMN - Be it on Discord or Facebook, so we can easily talk to each other, and make some fun stuff happen.
Last but not least - Down the line, I'd like to streamline the Marksmanship Program - I know there are questions regarding the program quite frequently, and I'll be happy to help answer your questions along the way as well; hoping to make the program inclusive and easily reachable for everyone.
Slowly, but surely aiming to wrap this up - I haven't written such a speech for quite a while (I bet it shows!), so on the closing note - I really encourage all of you to reach out to me, and let me know about your ideas, and about games you play. Especially that kind of games, that people can play together; although I am not picky.
If you've read this far - thank you for your time. Now, onwards, to fun.
Engage.
